Clarity and Insight Through Comprehensive Psychological Evaluation
What is psychological testing?
Psychological testing (also called an evaluation or assessment) is a process that uses a combination of standardized tests, questionnaires, and clinical interviews to better understand how you think, feel, and function. Testing can provide clarity about whether difficulties are related to conditions such as ADHD, autism, learning differences, trauma, anxiety, or depression.
The process often includes tasks that measure attention, memory, problem-solving, and emotional functioning, as well as observations and rating scales from you and sometimes family, teachers, or others who know you well.
The results are pulled together into a comprehensive written report, which includes diagnostic impressions (if applicable), a summary of strengths and challenges, and personalized recommendations for school, work, daily life, or treatment. Many people find testing helpful for gaining clarity, validation, and a roadmap for next steps.
What are the benefits of an evaluation?
A psychological evaluation can be a powerful tool for self-understanding and growth. Many people choose to pursue testing because they have questions about themselves, their experiences, or the challenges they’ve faced—and an evaluation can provide clear answers and direction.
Key benefits include:
-
Testing can help identify whether difficulties are related to ADHD, autism, learning differences, trauma, anxiety, depression, or other factors.
-
Results provide practical guidance for school, work, and daily life, including strategies and resources tailored to your strengths and challenges.
-
An evaluation can affirm your lived experiences, giving language and understanding to patterns you may have noticed but struggled to explain.
-
Formal testing results can support requests for academic accommodations, workplace adjustments, or treatment planning, making it easier to get the help you need.
Most importantly, an evaluation is not just about identifying challenges—it also highlights strengths, resilience, and resources you already have, so you can move forward with greater confidence and self-compassion.
What will the evaluation process be like?
The evaluation process is designed to be collaborative, supportive, and thorough. It typically includes three main parts:
-
We start with a detailed conversation about your background, current concerns, and goals for the evaluation. This helps me understand your unique experiences and determine which tools will best answer your questions.
-
During testing, we use a combination of standardized tools, observational techniques, and rating scales to gain a well-rounded picture of your strengths and challenges. Depending on your needs, this may take place in one or multiple sessions, and can be completed either in person or online (when appropriate and valid).
My goal throughout the process is to ensure you feel comfortable, informed, and empowered. An evaluation is not just about identifying difficulties—it’s also about highlighting strengths and providing a roadmap for growth and support.
-
Once the evaluation is complete, you will receive a comprehensive written report that summarizes the findings, diagnostic impressions (if applicable), and personalized recommendations. During the feedback session, we will review this report together, discuss the results in clear and accessible language, and explore practical next steps. This is also a time for you to ask questions and ensure the results feel meaningful and useful to you.

Clarity brings confidence. A comprehensive evaluation can illuminate your strengths, explain your challenges, and open doors to the support and accommodations you deserve.

CareCredit is a healthcare credit card that helps make mental health, medical, dental, and other wellness services more affordable. It allows you to pay for services upfront and then pay off the balance over time with flexible monthly payment options. Many clients find it helpful for managing the cost of therapy or psychological testing when they prefer not to pay in full at the time of service.

Your first appointment will be an intake session, which is focused on getting to know you and understanding your unique needs. During this time, we’ll talk about your background, current concerns, and goals for therapy or evaluation. I may ask about your personal history, daily experiences, and any challenges you’ve been facing, as well as the strengths and supports you already have.
The intake session is also a chance for you to ask questions, share what you’re hoping to gain, and get comfortable with the process. If we are beginning an evaluation, I’ll also explain what testing will look like and which areas we’ll be focusing on. If we are starting therapy, we’ll discuss how sessions typically work and outline your treatment goals together.
Overall, the first session is less about jumping straight into problem-solving and more about building a foundation of trust and understanding, so we can move forward in a way that feels supportive and meaningful for you.
